Energy-efficient rotating biological contactor designed for reliable secondary wastewater treatment through continuous biofilm growth, oxygen transfer and organic pollutant removal.
Wastewater Equipment
The CH Rotating Biological Disc Contactor is a fixed-film biological wastewater treatment system designed for secondary treatment applications.
The system consists of a series of closely spaced contact media mounted horizontally on a central rotating shaft. The media are partially submerged in wastewater and continuously rotate between the wastewater and the surrounding air.
Microorganisms grow on the surface of the media and form an active biological film. As the media rotate, the biofilm alternately comes into contact with wastewater and atmospheric oxygen. This process allows microorganisms to consume and break down organic pollutants before the treated effluent is discharged.
Continuous media rotation supports effective oxygen transfer, even wastewater contact and controlled biofilm thickness. The system provides reliable biological treatment with low energy requirements, minimal operational intervention and reduced maintenance requirements.
Wastewater containing organic pollutants enters the RBC treatment tank, where a series of rotating contact media are partially submerged.
Microorganisms grow on the surface of the contact media and form a biological film. As the media rotate, the biofilm is alternately exposed to wastewater and atmospheric air.
During exposure to air, oxygen is transferred into the biological film. When the media return into the wastewater, microorganisms consume and break down the organic pollutants into simpler compounds.
Continuous rotation provides a consistent supply of oxygen and nutrients while improving contact between the wastewater and the biological film. It also helps control excessive biofilm growth and supports the removal of excess biomass.
After treatment, the clarified effluent is separated from the biological film and discharged through the designated effluent collection arrangement.
